Today we submitted evidence to a government inquiry based on our August KBF survey. The inquiry will look at:
The ability of Parliament to hold the Government to account
Scrutiny of emergency powers
The operation of the courts
Our submission concluded:
In summary, the survey paints a picture in which the normal due process of decision making has been abandoned and replaced by an autocratic system, within which external advisers have more influence and decisions are ‘checked’ by media reaction or big business interests.
Respondents were (to put it mildly) not happy with the government and did not welcome the idea of a police state or surveillance society. They wanted joy restored to life.
