There are a number of papers currently circulating in the Lancet and publicised on the CEBM website, by such lights as Professor Heneghan, suggesting that notwithstanding a positive test for Covid RNA (the PCR test) the person testing positive may no longer be infectious. The data suggests this is right as the R number is rising yet deaths have plateaud at almost zero.
The corollary to this is such people should not be counted in the either infected numbers or nebulous R-Rate, the R-Rate should be further defined to exclude non-infectious people and such individuals should not required to isolate.
If correct then we must review the testing protocols and regime to ensure we are not determining policy, locking down swathes of the public and damaging the economy further, on the basis of hundreds of thousands of positive tests, the majority of which are incapable of infecting others.
If correct we must muster the relevant bodies, ministers, Sage representatives and others before we embark on an even greater flawed testing programme that will devastate the economy and the lives of millions. We must raise this question with our MP's and press press press to ensure this is in front of every appropriate body. If each member engages in this inquiry, writes to their MP, contacts anyone of influence, contacts the press, the voice will be a shout and we may prevent another disaster based upon erroneous counting and or testing.
