Feel free to not respond as this may be a bit outside the regional scope of this forum
Here in Portugal masks in shops are mandatory since May 30th. (I know for such a long time ☹️ ). I was actually surprised to learn that only from today on they would be mandatory in the UK, as I was under the impression that the measures in place were generally stricter than in my home country.
I can't stand masks right now. I have nothing against the technology itself, but it just doesn't make any sense to make it mandatory to wear one because of SARS-CoV-2. It doesn't align with the way I think we collectively should respond to this specific new virus. At all.
I get extremely anxious when I wear one, because of the thing itself, because of my stance on how this pandemic is being dealt with and because everyone else in the store is seemingly okay with all of this. Oh and my glasses get foggy.
Apparently I can be exempted from wearing one. Here's an excerpt of the law:
A person may be exempted from mandatory mask or face shield/visor wearing if the following documentation is provided:
multi use medical statement of incapacity or medical statement (for people with cognitive disability, developmental disability or psychological problems).
medical declaration that states that the person's clinical condition is not compatible with wearing masks or shields/visors.
Should I try to get this documentation? It'd be nice but I'm also not very comfortable with showing around a piece of paper that publicly states I suffer from depression and that that is why I can't wear a mask. I think they won't let me into stores without a mask and in public transport fines go from 120 to 350 euros (!!!).
