I attended a lockdown protest and have heard rumours that work my want to speak with me about it and possible issue a disciplinary, what are my rights surrounding this and can I be fired?
@hands_support and @francis_hoar ......helping hands on here too if that's easier @helpinghandsgroupuk ...... good luck, shocking and make sure you have a copy of your contract to check work contract also take a witness wit you.
Reiya - You certainly might need some legal advice, but you also need to hear what your employer says first. It's strange though that others know all about this, but your employer hasn't spoken to you about it. You haven't said who you work for, but in my opinion it's none of their business what you do in your spare time.
there has been a picture of me been found among the crowd photos (the side of my face), my union representative showed me and confidentially asked if it was me, he said if the managers see it he has no idea what will happen and I will probably face disciplinary, I work for Unilever. Could I just deny that its me or is it better to tell the truth?
Reiya - I'm with AutonomousAmy here. Say nothing to anybody. Let them come to you. It sounds like your union rep is scaremongering too. How can he/she say you 'will probably face disciplinary', yet nobody from the company has even mentioned anything to you yet? Unions usually have solicitors working for them. Mine did. We also had a free phone line for legal advice. Anybody who tries to bully, intimidate or discipline you, the Union should be down on them like a ton of sh*t. Do keep us posted how you get on.
Thankyou everyone for the response! I said to him yesterday that I hadn't done anything wrong as its a human right to peacefully protest and he said that Unilever won't see it like that and they won't care about "freedom of speech" he advised I lay low on social media for a while (because I quite actively post anti government posts) ...Nothing has been said yet, I've resorted to deleting all work colleagues off social media and to keep it private, will keep you posted
Reiya - What sort of union rep have you got there? I fought tooth and nail for my members, sometimes to the the detriment of my own health and sanity. That's what they all want - lie low, say nothing and just do everything the Government tells you to for a quiet life. That's the stance of majority of the UK population, and that's why we are still in this mess 8 months down the line!
Deleting work colleagues off your social media might be a good idea. Stick to those who you know and who you can trust. I'll be out there protesting come hell or high water, the Government and police can do what the heck they want. They won't break my spirit. Got nothing to lose.
This is fuckery , Keep your job lay low , I keep thinking these are just little one offs , but there are so many of them , There must be a clear message coming from somewhere to these companies, and they must have them over a barrel or the boss is just a facist who agrees ,,,,fukc me .what the funk is the point of a union .
I would like some information on what to say to them please
I’d message Simon for advice or Toby Young. They seem up on the law. Also Law and fiction!!
Or Kerry - Helping Hands - they seem knowledgable

@Reiya Smith I dont understand why it would be any of their business. Did the Union rep say what rules you had broken?
