Idea - and no, its what we used to refer to in a past workplace as an Idea for Offer and so for discussion and down and out rejection. It could form the basis of something else? The Govt seem to be oh so very keen to follow public opinion in addition to their bad science. We have fear feeding bad science feeding fear currently - a vicious circle that seems to be impossible to leave. YouGov Survey just now - over 70% have not had the virus (or believe that they haven't) yet 72% are pushing for tougher restrictions, think that all non essential retailers should close (64%), all schools should be closed (56%), all cafe's and bars shut (64%). 81% are rushing for a vaccine it would appear in the belief that 58% believe they will have all forms of restrictions on movement and activity lifted in 6 months. 32% believe it will be 2022 and 6% later than that despite 57% believing that 2021 will be a year of economic decline but 26% plan to go away within 3 months of restrictions being lifted, 22% in 6 months and only 24% longer than 12 months. People want their lives back. They are full of fear and think that this is the way out. What if a cleverly crafted survey which gave some information about health concerns was conducted which looks at risk, precautions (with facts), for anonymous conditions with facts about transmission, who it affects, whether it can be eradicated etc. and ask people what they believe is reasonable / what they would want / do or whatever in each situation. Covid would obviously have to be hidden along with whatever else is chosen - for example HIV, meningitis, glandular fever, Hong Kong Flu. Could that then be published and used to sway public opinion and / or policy via MPs?

We did one with KBF in August and submitted it to the House of Lords Life Post Covid Inquiry. Results were published here on the KBF blog in September.
We will be doing more surveys as part of our local democracy initiative. For more details DM me or have a look at our new twitter page @ApoliticalNtwk Have just recorded a local TV interview about it.
I don't think the purpose of 'surveys' such as YouGov are to inform so much as they are to condition your thinking and have you follow along with the 'majority' opinion.
yougive seems very suss & sketchy to me, seems laoded & most people asked are idiots I think, I put on there last week - I think the question was somethuing silly yet most people put - oh we're happy to put up with the restrictions...
pais godsends aren't you...
so I now don't answer the surveys
It needs to be backed up with a careful psychological campaign of our own. Real stories, real victims - we have all heard them and know people - now have terminal cancer, unable to get end of life care, lost their homes, lost their businesses PLUS the reality of those who have had it and had parents die with it and whether it was worth the consequential costs. Everyone knows Garroway's sob story, time they heard a few others. Backed up with brief facts but it needs professional psychologists to help with the messages. Get them spread - newspaper editorials, or those adverts that look like editorials, social media. Time we played them at their own game. Enough is enough
Anything is worth a try, though I fear we are dealing with a nation consumed by a religious cult. People that would have been considered ‘intelligent‘ have totally lost their ability to critically think using easily accessible facts, figures and common sense. It’s like with have reverted to medieval times, any bizarre suggestion coming from our incompetent politicians would be slavishly followed.
Excellent Idea! Just took the YouGov survey myself and was baffled by the results. I cannot believe that any person, who is neither wealthy, comfortably working from home, furloughed or a public servant (off work but on 100% salary) can possibly be advocating more restrictions as their entire existence depends on an open, working and thriving economy!
