Last week my wife and I went to Costco, we are exempt from wearing a mask (due to health reasons) and were told to leave the premises immediately. Apparently since 23/12/20 Costco have introduced a No mask- No entry -No exemption policy and that all members had received an email . We hadn't and would not have turned up. We were told by a member of staff that since Costo works on a membership scheme, the company can do what it wants! Apart from being treated really badly by staff, I'm wondering whether this is legal. Surely, this breaks the DDA . Any thoughts from other members? How can Costco get away with this?

Nothing to lose.

PS...I've written a complaint email and guess what? No reply!
I wear a badge in order to avoid any type of engagement with staff or Karens . When I spoke to the manager, on the day in question, I told him that what Costco was doing was illegal. He replied that since Costco works on a membership basis, members have to adhere to their rules, which now includes wearing a face covering and that no one is exempt. I repeated that Costco was breaking the law, but here merely shrugged this off and said that the lawyers who work for Costco must have looked into it. I have tried to find the CEO's contact details and they are nowhere to be found . Really not sure how to proceed now but I can't believe that Costco is getting away with this!
When I did have a confrontation with the security guard at Tesco I did write to their CEO and got an apology and they said they would make the store managers aware of the law
I have not worn a mask anywhere ever and have no intentions of doing so. I go shopping for groceries every week and go into coffee shops with no problem. I also travel on the underground an buses
If anyone asks I just say I am exempt and
Many thanks Joy. Do you think it'll get me anywhere?
this is not legal and you should write to the CEO of Costco, you can do this by email.
To stop you entering is discrimination under the Equality Act 2010
To deny me entry and/or service is a breach of Section 13 (1) of the act
If you add this to the email you should get a response
