Just wanting other people's opinions - obviously, loads of people are only wearing masks because it is law, and they are scared of getting in trouble/feeling ostracised. But, where do they think it is going? I was talking to a close friend yesterday, and I was really surprised to hear him say that he was just wearing it for now, because it was a temporary measure. We are both research scientists, and miles apart on this one.
Do people you know really believe it is temporary? I suppose I must be disconnected from public opinion, because I thought everyone thought this was for good, or until we have a vaccine. How can anyone think it is just for now, if we are wearing them at the point that even the ONS can't make this situation look serious - very few hospital admissions, very few deaths, more flu deaths than covid deaths ten weeks in a row.. My friend (and lots of my family) have told me I just need to "play the game", and wear a mask, but I just don't understand, this is for keeps, so it's not just playing the game, it's laying down my better judgement, my free will, my autonomy, and ultimately, my humanity. Like probably everyone on this site, I believe this is a very, very, long-term situation, and I don't want to look my children in the eye when they are older and tell them that I just let this happen.
