Does this virus exist or not? Had a rollicking from my cousin who has extensive breat cancer treatment. She has spoken to her clinicians and all say it exists and is very serious as it damages organs and immune systems? She insisted myself and my mother wear masks when we visit her father (who has COPD). She wasnt happy when I said no to the mask but I consented to wear a scarf. The mask makes me hot and dizzy and I have been sick a few times after having it on for more than 10 mins. She thinks we should all wear masks outside as well and have a much stricted lockdown.

It definitely exists, I've seen it spread all over my last work place and kill 1 person out of well over 100. There were 3 more that were unwell enough to go to hospital for a week or two but they got through it (bear in mind all 4 of these people were very unhealthy- morbidly obese with multiple health problems and the one who passed was elderly with multiple health problems). Literally everyone else (100+ if not close to 200 people) were absolutely fine. Most had no symptoms at all and a few had a bit of a cough and very mild fever that got better in a few short days, during which they were perfectly able to function as normal (they did isolate but were by no means too ill to do basic things).
According to the WHO and CDC the morality rate is a tiny, tiny 0.4 (it may be even lower now we have more accurate numbers of asymptomatic cases) and the percentage of asymptomatic cases who will never even know they had it unless tested is a whopping 86%.
It's not really a question of whether it exists but it's certainly a question of how enormously blown out of proportion it is.
We lived for millennia with real killer viruses: Typhoid, Smallpox, TB, Cholera, Polio, Rabies, Meningitis... The mortality rates for these ranged from 50- 100% fatal. This makes the reaction to COVID nothing short of laughable by comparison. We never once in history shut society down for these, they were just constantly there in the background, killing the majority of people who contracted them- unlike COVID which barely touches the majority of people who contract it.
TLDR; yes it exits but it's nothing for the majority of people (a very small minority are at risk of serious illness); sick of the mass hysteria- it is completely unwarranted; only useful approach? Shield the vulnerable but let everyone else get on with it to avoid astronomical harm to mental health and the economy in the long run.
I agree with that too - also strangely during lockdown and after I didn’t know anyone with it, had or died of it. Now I’m getting to hear of close friends who have got it some more severe than others And RECOVERING. The symptoms are different to what they’ve had before. BUT No deaths. Loss of sense and smell is the main thing common in each person apparently.
Others are saying the same.. it’s odd ...
It is strange that people are having this now. Are selected tests laced with it? As Mike Yeadon points out there’s been no second wave in the history of pandemics!!
Agree wit grumps.
Nicola - There's tons of information on the internet about coronaviruses and influenza. Here's a small extract that you might find useful from Laboratory News:
'The clinical symptoms during the initial stages of COVID-19 are similar to those experienced by people with influenza. The key features are a fever (over 37.8°C) and a persistent dry cough. Patients also report lethargy, aching, sore throat, headache and diarrhoea. Most people with either influenza or COVID-19 will have some or all of these symptoms. In both infections, the majority of people will feel really ill for 1 to 2 weeks and then start to get better. Due to the effects of the virus on the body, feeling tired for a few more weeks and with a low mood (‘ post viral syndrome’) is quite common. This does not last in the majority of cases and a full recovery would be expected. As mentioned above, people are more likely to be incapacitated for a while during an uncomplicated influenza infection than COVID-19. Indeed, it is becoming clear that a significant proportion of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 experience either the mild symptoms of bad cold or nothing at all. The most dangerous complication of influenza is a secondary bacterial infection. This occurs because the lungs are made vulnerable by the effects of the virus within the body. In COVID-19 the host’s immune system seems to overreact to the presence of the virus itself, causing damage to the lungs, which results in shortness of breath and severe respiratory distress. In both situations, the patient may become ill enough to require hospital treatment and may die.'
Yes I believe the virus exists, but the whole thing has been blown totally out of proportion. It's the mass hysteria and craziness that surrounds it that gets me the most, and the fiddling of the figures. Never has the World gone 'nuts' over the flu or TB which kills thousands of people every year. I have posted a lot on here if you want to see my views, or your family too if they want to have a look. Covid may damage the organs of a few people as your family point out, and so does cancer also. My internal organs are being damaged day by day because I can't get a hospital appointment for love nor money. My advice is go live your life in the way that you think is best. You can't please everybody, even your family.
