As a pensioner who is part of the generation considered to be most at risk from the ravages of Covid-19, I relinquish any claim on the lives of the young. I will not expect anyone to sacrifice days, weeks or months of their life, love or livelihood on my behalf. It is a grotesque imposition for the old to expect the young to sacrifice the joy of living for the interests or fears of the elderly.
Go and live your lives; return to your schools, your colleges, your universities. Enjoy the beauty of Autumn. Meet with your friends and do all of the things that young people do. I hereby release any claim on the lives of young people: I have no claim on you for my welfare. My God is my protector, my provider and my saviour. Nothing you could forfeit, however kindly intended, could supplement His grace.
I hereby free you from all responsibility for my wellbeing and I implore all authorities to lift all the obstructions which hinder the normal processes of daily existence. It is time for life to resume.
