Hey guys, be keen to meet up for a beer or coffee if you are in or near N London. I'm in N7 but have bike, will travel to anywhere vaguely local. Be great to chat with some like-minded folks, and figure out what we can do about this, please let me know.
Hey Rob,
I'm in N16, also have a bike...let's meet! Let me know what days/times would work for you this week.
Cheers,
David
I'm in N4 and would really like to meet some real people to talk about what's going on. No bike but I do have legs ;-)
Great! Legs will work too and I'm literally real! :)
When's good for you Nina? Summer hols atm (teacher) so I'm pretty flexible.
I'm working most days but free most evenings. There are a couple of fairly relaxed pubs near me (Finsbury Park area) where a group of us could meet up - or whoever was free. The Faltering Fullback is good. Or maybe there's somewhere near you?.
Great, most evenings good for me too and Finsbury park is a 10min bike ride away, perfect! Rob?..
I'm in south-east London, but could get to Finsbury Park fairly easily. Already met up with Dashwood in the South Bank last weekend, and we had a good chat!
How about Thursday this week at the Faltering Fullback N4? If it's sunny and the pub is full they let people spill onto the pavement outside until 9pm. Then if there are spaces inside in the less-nice big open area we can get a seat. I went last Thursday and we got a seat inside at 9pm. They do zap you with a temp check (comical!) and ask for a name and phone number for the group at the door (so I give 'a name' and 'a phone number'). But once you're in it's fairly chilled and normal. Are we happy to share phone numbers to set up a Whatsapp Group?
(Can use the members chat to share personal details to keep that private.)
Guys, 100% up for it and the F Fullback good for me - only problem is I'm doing kids bedtime on Thursday night and I can't escape! Any chance Wednesday instead, 7.30pm? Or even tonight?
Can't do tonight or the next 2 days unfortunately - Friday would be OK.
I can't tonight or tomorrow (I'm away unfortunately). But could do Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Or next week Any good?
Ah!..ok, sounds good (well, apart form the temp check..errgh!),no firm plans for Friday/weekend atm, so I'm good for any of those.
I could do Friday at a push, but maybe we should practice what we preach and find a nearby venue that's not the F Fullback? They're not all as mad as that :)
Sorry if it sounded mad. It's a really nice pub and very popular. When they opened on 4th July they were flooded with journalists and reporters and were in the spotlight. I think they feel they have to present a good front to stay open. But once inside compared to other places it feels pretty relaxed to me. But I'm really happy to go anywhere at all, so name your venue!
Hey Nina, not a mad idea - I've been to that pub before, really liked it and would hope to go back in future - just mad that they're doing the temp check thing... I've been in 4 or 5 pubs since this thing and that is the most extreme I'm aware of. What about The Finsbury instead which is near by? To be fair I've not been in there but looks pretty good from the outside, good reviews etc. http://www.thefinsbury.co.uk/contact
Sure. Sounds good to me. Are we good for Friday? Dashwood and Debbie?
Yep,I'd be inclined to agree with the going-somewhere-else idea if they insist on doing the temp thing, they're not legally obliged to and so just it's more ramping up of the nonsense on their side. I'm sure it's a great place Nina, not mad at all.
I was actually thinking that our first little protest could be going there as a group and walking away if they insist on taking temps...I mean, not much I know but 'every revolution begins with a single act of defiance' they say :)
Aaaanyway, Friday eve good for me. It's apparently going to be frickin hot so another option could be just buying some beers and sitting in the park?..but totally happy with to go with whatever the general consensus is.
Yeah that could be a good shout actually Dash, we could meet in that corner of Finsbury Park at the big crossroads by the pub actually... shall we do that?
Yeah, let's do it!
Yeah, the temperature thing sounds a bit OTT (though I'm actually more concerned about being forced to give contact details. Been to several other pubs since they reopened and none of them asked me to do that). I'm happy to go wherever though, and Friday is fine for me.
Yeah I've never actually been asked, but surely the answer is always 'Professor Neil Ferguson, Imperial College, London?' :)
What time would be good for everyone? I'm totally flexible.
Hi Guys — great to see you’re meeting up. I was beginning to wonder whether the other members of this site were real people !!
I’m in N15, and happy to travel, on foot, to anywhere reasonably walkable (the Tube’s an absolute nightmare at the moment).
A drink in the park sounds like a nice idea, and it’s the sort of thing we might not be able to do in a month or two, as the weather changes. (Although who knows what else we won't be able to do in a month or two, the way things are going?)
Nice one Adam, the more the merrier!
@Adam Hi Adam John here I've just joined n15 here also
Happy with anything. I'm not sure that trying it with the pub is a good idea as it's going to be really sunny and it's a Friday so there's likely to be a queue to get in. Not sure it's worth a wait before making the point. But let's meet somewhere and go from there. I'm free from around 7.30/8pm and no other plans. If you needed to meet earlier I could work that too. Would be nice to sit at a table in a pub (we could meet near the Finsbury Park one you mentioned Rob) and put a bit of business there way, but I'm also very happy to just sit in the park. Let's fix a time and location to meet up with some REAL PEOPLE!
Yep, I think you're right Nina..I'm sure we can come up with some better protest ideas :)
