Has anyone taken a moment to glance at the kind of state propaganda they have in shops and public transport? In addition to the standard issue ideological propaganda about masks, that doesn't even pretend to be factual, there is the "be kind" propaganda: millions of people are are being denied treatment for cancer, heart disease etc, millions more are isolated, abused and miserable, where the hell is the kindness? Today's highlight was a sign in a pharmacy that said " prescribe kindness", kindness is an innate human quality, it doesn't come out of a dispensary. And all of this is covered by cloying, infantile material about rainbows, heroes and angels. Lets not forget the Orwellian "peace is war, freedom is slavery" slogans.
What I'm wondering is who does all this appeal to? None of it is rational, none of it makes claims based in scientific evidence, it seems sickly sweet and brashly stupid. It treats people like frightened children who need to be reassured with a teddy bear ( the sad thing being that if there truly is a terrible danger, the teddy bear offers no real protection). People place rainbow signs and in their windows like some kind of talisman, the way a medieval peasant might try to scare off an angry ghost. Since when did society become a ritualistic, happy-clapper cult? Does anyone have any clue as to how such an absurd cult gained so many followers at such speed?
By the way, the customers in the pharmacy today were anything but cheerful. I have never seen such a group of sluggish, morose and in some cases wantonly aggressive people. Clearly the plastic rainbows didn't lift their spirits much.
