Sainsbury's have announced a "no challenge" policy, and my local has been true to that so far, but in five visits I have only seen one other unmasked person. This when it was 90%+ before July 24th. Obviously people are acquiescing, either for fear of prosecution, or of harassment or simply of drawing attention to themselves. I suggest, in view of police statements indicating a lack of enthusiasm to get involved absent public order offence, that the latter explanations are more likely. I suggest this site should have a page listing numbers of people intending to visit a certain shop within a certain time frame to coax the more timid into helping to reach the tipping point when the whole policy becomes unenforeceable anywhere.

I've been popping into shops just to 'test', and as you've experienced I will be the only person in the shop mask free. Yesterday i went into my local Sainsburys and i was the only person mask free, i also noticed more gloved than hands than before 24th July.

I have been just waltzing into shops and takeaways. I was asked to wear a mask in a Vodafone shop. I said I didn't have one, but they produced a mask from a box. I needed them to sort my mobile, so I put it on. Pulled it down to speak and then never pulled it up again.
These are the places you are now supposed to wear a mask on the 8th of August I think there is no way they can enforce it though if people just say no Places of worship, cinemas and theatres, Bingo Halls Museums and halls, Massage parlours Concert halls, Libraries and public reading rooms, community centres social clubs public areas in hotels and hostels aquariums zoos and visitor farms tattoo piercing parlours indoor entertainment venues nail beauty hair salons auctions houses vet nary services storage and distribution facilities legal or financial services you can be exempt if you have a mental illness or disability and physical illness or disability and if you are on medication so far no place i have been into has refused me service so i find that positive that they are ignoring the government guidelines
