We want to have a BBQ at the weekend, well it is a bank holiday, and I am trying to work out what the LAW is on the number of people that can come. I think it is 30 but the GOV website talks about bubbles, 2 households, 6 people etc so its quite confusing. Can someone cut through the waffle for me please.
I live in England and its not an area with any extra restrictions.
Regulation is max 30, but if I understand correctly it applies indoors only.
They have also increased fines from today. Anything else is a guidance hence can be ignored.

I too want to hold a BBQ for 10-11 people. Can I do this? The FAQS on here say yes, Government website says no.
@Steve Watkins The Government relies on people not knowing the difference between law and guidance hence deliberately confusing the public - behavioural psychology trick, confused population is easier to manipulate/control.
So, to answer your question law which must be followed, unless you are prepared to face consequences, limits indoors gatherings in private dwelling to 30 (unless you’re in one of the restricted areas up North, in Scotland or Wales). The guidance is confusing and introduces further limits however guidance has no weight in law nor consequences therefore it is up to you to choose whether to follow or not.
Good example, relating to BBQs nonetheless, would be Government guidance on alcohol consumption which says that you should not consume more than 2 units of alcohol per day (roughly 1 pint), I don’t suppose many would follow right?
