I am so frustrated and disappointed at the turn of events last Weds when there was an opportunity for MPs to vote down the renewal of the Coronavirus Bill. I have only just learned that 300 MPs were ABSENT from Parliament on Weds! Why did they not turn up to vote on this massively important issue?
Also Sir Graham Brady’s amendments were not accepted by the Speaker (who seems to have lost his backbone) and the Rebels were fobbed off with a pathetic promise from Matt Hancock that, wherever possible, MPs would be given the opportunity to vote on future Coronavirus decisions. “Wherever possible” means absolutely nothing! What caused them to cave in so easily?
MPs are the elected representatives of the people, so the 300 MPs who failed to vote on Wednesday have committed an unforgivable dereliction of duty.
The only person who seemed prepared to put his head over the parapet was Sir Christopher Walker whose anger was palpable when he expressed his outrage that only 90 minutes had been set aside to discuss the renewal of the Coronavirus Act.
What is going on behind the scenes to cause this massive climb-down and to cause so many MPs to be absent? Our democracy really is in tatters and the vast majority of the population do not seem to know or care?
So almost half MP's can't support the infringement measures - yet 'can't' vote against......
It really is getting towards time for a different approach -
How curious that 'Happy People on Wine Crate Red Buses' guy didn't vote ! - Probably sees the irony of a bus full of masked up / scarf wearers.
Worse than that, even Boris J didn't vote- so in my eyes he's distanced himself from his own policies and will allow those MPs that voted in favour to be hung out to dry when the s*** hits the fan. https://votes.parliament.uk/Votes/Commons/Division/863
Muffin - Nearly 300 MP's couldn't be bothered to vote on an act that has wrecked the country and ruined thousands of lives. It shows what utter contempt they hold for the British Public!
Hi Sustustco, Yes it was indeed a remarkable number of absentees and newsworthy in its own right. They were actually absent and didn’t vote. It must be possible to get a record of those absent and the cowards should be ashamed of themselves. Check out the full report on this great ‘alternative‘ news site which gives voting numbers:

That is a remarkable number missing ?
or were they not there but on video link ?
What was the actual vote figures ?
Where to find a list of those absent ? Thanks
Gutless is a good word to describe these ‘rebels’ that didn’t rebel. There were supposedly 50 from the Conservatives and about a dozen from the opposite benches. If two thirds of this number had voted against the act then it would have forced the government to compromise or back down on some orders. Instead a paltry 27 MPs defied the government by voting no. Congrats to the MPs that voted no, but shame on the cowards who obviously allowed themselves to be bullied by the whips into putting their career above doing the right thing.
As for Hancock, anyone who believes any of his promises needs to check themselves into the Priory. The backbench Tories need to start sharpening their long knives instead, something they’ve traditionally excelled at.
There isen't any oppostion in many countries. But we can't just blame some crook MPs, we have to blame ourselves (as we are majority) for doing nothing and expecting some crooks to sort our lives. The Government and the rest of the MPs are not body and have zero power against us. But we are too lazy and want to sort all the problems by voting once evey five years to a Government who will do all for us. We are insane for trusting others. We have been brainwashed from minute one we went to school. It is our ignorance that has invited all the mafia in Parliament. Like the woolf, who always appear to where the sheeps are. That's why we have to stand up marching in the streets by the thousands daily to demonstrate who has the power.
