A Better World?
I woke up in the pages of 1984
A place where sense and logic
Had been kicked out of the door.
Where the virtuous amongst us
Were those who toed the line
And standing up for freedom
Became a heinous crime.
Where once familiar faces
Could no longer be seen
And swathes of common people
Saw dissenters as unclean.
A place where masks and muzzles
Were written in to law
And children stood in bubbles
Or a circle on the floor.
Where mass, state-sponsored child abuse
Became a common theme
Stealing joy from millions
Leaving scars yet to be seen
If you read this in the future
And this is your reality
Please know that there were many
Who waged war to set you free.
I hope you’re in a better world
For then we will have won
And you can learn from history
How tyranny was undone.
