I am a teacher in the Manchester area and have resigned this week owing to the new protocols. I could just about stand it before Christmas when kids had to wear masks on corridors, but now it is ridiculous. These poor children have to sit all day wearing a mask. For me this is an absolute violation of an inalienable human right: the right to breathe freely. Nobody has the legitimate jurisdiction to trespass on this sovereign territory concerning one's requirement and entitlement to breathe freely. It is also terribly dehumanising, in that we are erasing facial expression (in particular the ability to smile at one another) and stifling the purity of their voices. And this heinous intervention is predicated on the possibility that healthy children may somehow be spreading a virus without knowing. Disgusting. It seems to me like a guilt-tripping, brain washing exercise to get everybody to surrender their liberties, not to mention their dignity. It is one thing to try this with adults, but to degrade and defile youngsters in this way is in my view surely a monumental low point in our civilization.
Rant over! I am hoping to connect with other people who feel strongly about this issue. It would seem that most teachers just have their heads in the sand, or up their asses, frankly. I would be particularly interested to hear from any teachers, parents or other school workers. I have written to my MP but I have concluded that he is a bit of a chocolate fireguard. Do get in touch if you are interested in networking to do some activism on the front. Best wishes, Steven.
Should have tried to get some press coverage!
Brilliant decision, not surrender. I hope there are more like you.
Well done Stephen for standing up!
